The Saint Georges theatre is located in the beautiful square that takes its name.
It can be reached by the metro line number 12 that leads you directly into the square. The area where it is located is called "New Athens" which was, in the nineteenth century, the cultural centre of Paris. It is located a 10-minute walk from the hill of Montmartre, where all the artists of the city gather together. The theatre was built in 1929 next to the house Thiers, who belonged to the French president of the time. It was built where there was a family home, which belonged to the founder of the Petit Journal, a local newspaper specialized in concerts and cultural events. Since its opening the theatre exhibits modern works of French authors.
During the war the theatre was closed and reopened in the 50s with very popular comic operas. The work "Patate" was presented more than 2000 times! In the theatre was made the film "Last Metro", which was a great success and received the Cesar awards in Cannes. Children under 26 years pay only 10 € instead of 40, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Buy a last minute Paris and spend a evening in the Saint Georges theatre.
